The weekly grocery run on upper Los Gatos Boulevard is being reshuffled one lease at a time. Whole Foods moved up the street in April. Cornerstone Shopping Center filled its two empty anchor spaces with a gym and a San Francisco family grocer. Nob Hill Foods has set a departure date after nearly 56 years. Each change has its own date, so for the next eight months the corner will gain grocery options before it loses one. The center that held the old supermarket is coming out of it with a different identity.
Here is where each address stands as of early November 2026, and which date matters next.
| Address | Business | Where it stands | Date to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15650 Los Gatos Blvd. | Whole Foods Market, "Los Gatos - Almaden" | Open in its new 43,130 sq. ft. building | Opened April 15, 2026 |
| 15920 Los Gatos Blvd. | Club Studio, former Rite Aid | Open since early September | Grand opening Saturday, Nov. 14, 2026 |
| Cornerstone, former Whole Foods space | Gus's Community Market | Lease signed for 18,000 sq. ft. | Opening targeted for spring 2027 |
| 15710 Los Gatos Blvd. | Nob Hill Foods | Lease will not be renewed | Closure expected June 2027 |
The Move That Started the Chain
The reshuffle began when Whole Foods moved out of Cornerstone. According to Whole Foods' own announcement, the new "Los Gatos - Almaden" store at 15650 Los Gatos Boulevard opened April 15, 2026, in a 43,130-square-foot building. The Mercury News put that against the old store's 19,000 square feet, so the new store is more than twice the size.
Most of the added space goes to food you eat there. The store has a coffee-and-juice bar and more seating. Its prepared foods include hot food and salad bars, pizza and sushi, and it has a larger parking lot for its own customers.
The building stands on the former Chevrolet dealership site, next to the Tesla sales and service center. Sand Hill Property Company developed the site, as the Los Gatan reported at the opening. The paper also noted that the store carries more than 2,000 items from California-based suppliers. It ended a 32-year run for Whole Foods at its first Los Gatos location, which opened in 1994. Sheila Reno, manager and co-owner of Los Gatos Cafe across the street, told the Los Gatan, "It's very beautiful. I'm excited for them. And it's nice that it's right across the street."
When Whole Foods left Cornerstone, it emptied one of two large spaces there. The Rite Aid next door had already closed. Who would fill those two spaces decided what the rest of this reshuffle looks like.
Cornerstone Chose a Gym and a Smaller Grocer
Cornerstone has stood at Los Gatos Boulevard and Blossom Hill Road long enough to appear in a 1967 photograph held in the Los Gatos Library's collection. The center is managed by Cilker, a Los Gatos company that began in 1945 as a family agricultural and real estate business. Cilker Vice President Mary Egan led the re-leasing, and the Los Gatan reported that she called it "a strategic repositioning of the property." She brought in two new businesses to replace the two that left, Whole Foods and Rite Aid.
The first replacement is already open. Club Studio took the former Rite Aid at 15920 Los Gatos Boulevard, a space of about 19,000 square feet, according to the East Bay Times. The club arrived in early September. Its four studio rooms host CS4 strength training on treadmills, rowers and SkiErg machines, a cycling class with a weight sequence, heated yoga, and reformer Pilates. The doors are already open, but the club's October announcement sets its official grand opening for Saturday, Nov. 14, with giveaways and local vendors. A ribbon-cutting with the Los Gatos Chamber of Commerce is planned before the event.
The second replacement is Gus's Community Market, which has signed a lease for 18,000 square feet in the former Whole Foods space. The new store will be almost exactly the size of the Whole Foods that used to be there. Cilker's announcement targets spring 2027 for the opening of Gus's and its in-house café partner.
Los Gatos will be the first South Bay store for Gus's. The business opened as Haight Street Market in San Francisco in 1981 and now runs five San Francisco stores, on Noriega, Haight, Harrison and Channel streets plus Canyon Market. Brothers Dimitri and Bobby Vardakastanis run it today. Keyston Smith, Cilker's CEO and president, told the Los Gatan that the leasing plan "brings new and vibrant tenants to the Uptown Los Gatos community."
Taken together, the leases change what Cornerstone is. A full-size national supermarket and a drugstore are being replaced by a fitness club and a neighborhood-scale specialty grocer with a café, and Cornerstone's owners chose that mix on purpose. The Los Gatan later corrected an earlier report: the Cornerstone site has not been sold, and Sand Hill Property Company has never owned it.
Nob Hill's Last Season at 15710
The third change is the one with an end date. Nob Hill Foods has operated at Los Gatos Boulevard and Blossom Hill Road for nearly 56 years. Its parent company, Raley's, has decided not to renew a lease that expires in 2027. SFGate reported that the store is expected to close in June 2027. Raley's Chief Marketing Officer Carol Barsotti told SFGate the decision followed a review of the store's performance and current economic conditions. No exact last day has been published. Raley's closed its Mountain View store in May and a Roseville store in January.
Until June, Nob Hill is still a full-service supermarket at 15710 Los Gatos Boulevard, just up the boulevard from the new Whole Foods at 15650. No replacement tenant or plan for the space has been announced. That makes this address the one open question in an otherwise scheduled sequence.
The Order the Next Eight Months Arrive In
If Gus's opens in spring and Nob Hill stays through June, the boulevard could have three full grocers within a few blocks for a short stretch: Whole Foods in its new building, Nob Hill in its final weeks and Gus's in Cornerstone. After that, the count drops to two until a tenant is named for 15710.
- Saturday, Nov. 14, 2026. Club Studio's grand opening at 15920 Los Gatos Boulevard. It is the first public event for the rebuilt Cornerstone.
- The 2026 holiday season through spring 2027. Whole Foods and Nob Hill operate a short distance apart on the boulevard, and the old Whole Foods space at Cornerstone is being prepared for its new tenant.
- Spring 2027. Gus's Community Market and its café partner are slated to open in Cornerstone's former Whole Foods space.
- June 2027. Nob Hill Foods is expected to close at 15710 Los Gatos Boulevard.
Two nearby addresses are not part of this round of changes. Lunardi's remains at 720 Blossom Hill Road in Kings Court Shopping Center. The large Safeway on the east side of Highway 17 near downtown still serves the other side of town. Farther north, the North 40's Junction has signed Mentone and Manresa Bread, two concepts from chefs David Kinch and Avery Ruzicka, as the Los Gatan reported in May. Neither has an opening date yet.
That leaves one address still undecided. The Whole Foods move is done, Cornerstone's lineup is set, and Gus's has a target season. Nob Hill's 15710 Los Gatos Boulevard is the only space on this stretch with an end date and no announced next tenant.
